New IBM RedGuide for IT business leaders examines the DS3 multi-factor authentication solution, and how it empowers businesses to meet their business and security challenges. Data Security Systems Solutions (DS3) announces the availability of an IBM Redguide publication, “Protecting Data Assets by Deploying a Multi-Factor Authentication Solution with End-to-End Encryption”, authored by Aditi Mukherjee (Technical Writer, DS3) and Axel Buecker (Software IT specialist, IBM ITSO). This IBM Redguide discusses the security challenges for online businesses, highlights the key features and differentiators of the IBM Total Authentication Solution, and describes how it can help organizations enhance identity assurance across various businesses and scenarios. Consumers today are conducting more and more Internet-based transactions from all over the world, especially through modern portable devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and notebooks. A lot of these internet-based transactions still use ‘static’ user name and password for user authentication. The static passwords, however, offer very little protection against unauthorized access, and are very vulnerable to a wide variety of phishing and Trojan attacks. With a lot of sensitive user data and organization’s credibility at stake, the organizations can no longer afford to simply rely on simple user name and password. They are forced to adopt enhanced authentication methods, not only to secure confidential data through strict access control, but also to comply with stringent industry and government regulatory standards. But, with a plethora of authentication solutions available in the market, the organizations must balance their security needs with other requirements such as flexibility, ease of deployment, manageability and better return on investment. This Redguide was designed to help the business managers understand the features and differentiators of the IBM Total Authentication Solution, and how it can help them secure data for their Internet-based businesses. The IBM Total Authentication solution is a token-agnostic, cost-effective, and fully integrated enterprise-wide authentication solution that authenticates millions of users every day, authorizes remote access and transactions, and protects sensitive data security from fraudulent Internet attacks. The core component of the solution is the DS3 Authentication Server, a security appliance that offers strong multi-factor authentication and end-to-end (E2E) encryption of passwords and OTPs. It integrates easily with the existing infrastructures and applications in an organization, and is designed to accommodate technological improvements and business expansions. The IBM Total Authentication Solution is compliant with many of the industry-specific and government regulations.
